Candidate for American Heritage Center Director Visits Laramie

One of three recently identified finalists for the position of director of the University of Wyoming’s American Heritage Center is visiting campus today and tomorrow.  She will give a public presentation from 4:30-5:30 p.m. today in Room 214 of the Classroom Building.

Bridget J. Burke is the dean of libraries at North Dakota State University.  Before she officially took that position on Sept. 15, 2014, Burke was a department head and assistant professor for the Alaska and Polar Regions Collection at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks.  She has also held positions at several other universities and at the National Museum of American History Library at the Smithsonian Institution.

At the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Burke received a Master of Library Science and a bachelor’s degree.  She also earned a Master of Arts in liberal studies from Wesleyan University.

Burke’s presentation is called “The fine, the fitting, and the first time around: Practicing high-impact collaboration to support scholarship, learning, and community engagement in the archives.”

Two other candidate vying for the position of director of the AHD, J. Wendel Cox and Bruce Montgomery, are scheduled to visit UW next week.  They will also give public presentations; the times and locations have not yet been announced.
