Browns Landing Fire Still Burning

The Browns Landing Fire continues to burn just south of Pole Mountain proper in the Albany County portion of the Medicine Bow National Forest.  The fire began with a lightning strike on Oct. 1.

The Forest Service believes that upcoming rain will naturally extinguish the blaze, but increased public notification on Friday due to recent smoke visibility.

The past two weeks have seen minimal growth for the fire due to several weather conditions.  Occasional smoke may be visible from I-80 and the Happy Jack Highway.

The nearest trailhead is Headquarters East.  No access has been restricted in the area, but the Forest Service some signs have been placed at nearby access points to make sure that the public is aware of the fire.

In all directions from the fire, management action points have been set up so that the blaze can be suppressed by fire crews should it move significantly or increase in activity.

“We will continue to monitor and assess the situation daily,” said Laramie District Ranger Frank Romero.  “This is a naturally-occurring fire that has shown little growth for the two weeks and we do not expect any significant growth or changes.”

Fire area fuels include aspen and pine trees, as well as sagebrush, shrubs, and grasses.
