The body of Bryan Gross, a 29-year-old Converse County Deputy, was found late Sunday morning in the North Platte River in Douglas. His body was recovered about 1.5 miles downstream from where he went into the water to help a struggling girl. Search efforts were in their fourth day.

On Thursday Gross entered the water as part of the rescue of a 14-year-old girl who had jumped in because of troubles she had been having with her boyfriend. K2 Radio reports that upon her rescue, it was discovered that Deputy Gross was missing and search efforts began immediately.

Gross had been married 28 days before he went missing. Services and arrangements are still pending.
