A bill that would keep Wyoming on Daylight Saving Time all year long if three surrounding states do so as well has now cleared the Wyoming House of Representatives and a Wyoming Senate Committee.

House Bill 14 was scheduled for General File on the Senate Floor on Thursday, Feb. 7, as of Thursday morning.

The bill was recently approved in the state House on a 35-23 vote, and by the Senate Agriculture Committee on a 5-0 vote. The legislation would need to survive three readings in the Senate, including a third and decisive vote next week, before potentially being sent on to Governor Mark Gordon.

Various bills to keep Wyoming on either Moutain Standard or Mountain Daylight time year-round have failed to win final approval in the Wyoming Legislature over the last four years.

Opponents of such legislation say changing the clocks has become a time-honored tradition that most people like and that doing away with it would cause kids to have to go to school in the dark.

Supporters point to significantly increased accident and even heart attack rates around the time of the clock changes and say the changes disrupt people's sleep patterns for no valid reason.
