Bill Expanding 6th Penny Uses Passes The House

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — The House of Representatives has passed a bill that would give localities the option of approving sixth-penny sales tax money to pay for road work.

Democratic Rep. James Byrd, of Cheyenne, sponsored the legislation that would allow the specific-purpose tax to be used for the major maintenance, renovation or reconstruction of specific sections of public roads.

The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reports that House Bill 40 passed on a 47-12 vote Wednesday.

The legislation now goes to the Senate for its consideration.
