Question:

Is it okay for minors to smoke on Hancock Street west of the high school during lunch and after school? A lot of kids congregate there and I am surprised the police don't do anything about it.

Answer:

It is illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to possess or use tobacco products, including electronic cigarette devices. The LARAMIE police department actively enforces these ordinances through compliance checks twice yearly to ensure retail outlets are not selling to minors and enforcement when violations are observed.  We are aware of the area known as "smokers corner" and have issued several citations to minors at that location during this school year.  Patrols are done in this area as time and call load permit.  Certainly if you live in this area and observe violations you can call Dispatch at 721.2526 and officers will be sent to investigate potential violations.
