Laramie Elks Lodge No. 582 is hosting the local competition for the annual Elks Hoop Shoot Saturday at the Laramie Recreation Center.

This is "the national free throw shooting contest" for boys and girls ages 8 through 13. There is no cost to participate.

Contestants are divided into three age categories. They are 8-9; 10-11; and 12-13. The age group is determined by their age as of April 1, 2015.

Each boys or girl will have 25 shots at the hoop. The boy and girl in each age group with the best scores advance through four tiers of competition to qualify for the national finals.

Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. on January 3, 2015 at the Laramie Rec Center. The competition will start at 10 a.m.

Local winners will advance on to the District competition, which will take place January 17 in Cheyenne.
