More Albany County voters cast ballots in Tuesday's General Election than in any election in the past decade.

Unofficial results show 17,242 votes cast in the county. That's more than triple the 5,069 votes cast in this year's primaries and narrowly tops turnout in 2008, when President Barack Obama was first elected.

"Before we started voting this morning, we had more ballots cast by early voters or absentee ballots than we had ballots cast in the primary election," Albany County Clerk Jackie Gonzales said late Tuesday.

Gonzales also noted between 2,500 and 3,500 newly-registered voters who cast ballots on Tuesday, with many of them in the 18-24 age group that has seen particularly poor turnout in recent Wyoming elections.

Albany County went red for Republican Donald Trump in Tuesday's presidential race, with the billionaire businessman winning the county by a margin of 713 votes over Democrat Hillary Clinton.

Meanwhile, Democrat Ryan Greene took the county by 417 votes over Republican Liz Cheney in the race for Wyoming's lone U.S. House seat. Cheney ultimately came out on top with 156,141 votes statewide, more than doubling up on Greene.

Republican Rep. Glenn Moniz won the seat in Senate District 10 -- which will be vacated by Senate President Phil Nicholas (R-Albany) when his current term expires -- over Democrat Narina Nunez by a margin of 1,320 votes unofficially.

Democrats Charles Pelkey and Cathy Connolly retained their state House seats in Districts 45 and 13, respectively. Pelkey traded leads with Republican Tom Schmit Tuesday before ending up the winner by a margin of 165 votes.

Republican Dan Furphy, former President and CEO of the Laramie Chamber Business Alliance, beat Democrat Erin C. O'Doherty in the race for House District 13. Meanwhile, Republican Bill Haley came out ahead of Democrat Ken Chestek in House District 46.

Republican Jerry Paxton beat Democrat Ken Casner in House District 47 by a margin of 120-18.

Republican Terri Jones won the Albany County Commission seat over Democrat Mary Byrnes by nearly 1,100 votes.

Pat Gabriel, incumbent Vicki Henry, Charles McKinney, Vice-Mayor Jayne Pearce and incumbent Joe Shumway all secured seats on the Laramie City Council.

Mark Bittner, Tamsin "Tammy" Schroeder and Michele Mitchum won seats as Albany County School District No. 1 Trustees in Area A.

Jon K. Essley and Joseph O. Witt look safe in their uncontested bids for Fire District No. 1 Director.

Ruth A. Shepherd, Larry C. Munn and Carol Price were all uncontested in the election for Conservation District.

Also uncontested were Dennis C. Cook, Rex Gantenbein and Guy Warpness in the race for Hospital District Trustee.

All results remain unofficial until they are certified by the County Canvassing Board on Thursday. The State Canvassing Board meets in one week.
