Laramie residents have the opportunity this weekend to hear a band that has not played in town in the last ten years. The United States Air Force Academy Band is playing at the Washington Park band shell this Sunday at 3 p.m.

The concert is free and has a variety of features including Disney selections, jazz, country, concert band and patriotic numbers. Along with traditional band instruments, the band will also have a steel guitar and vocalists. Sarah Stewart, Concert Producer, says about 55 musicians will travel to Laramie for the occasion.

This event is part of a tour that provides six concerts in six days across Wyoming and South Dakota. Laramie marks the launch of the Summertime Spectacular Tour.

Stewart says the event is a way to celebrate the coming holiday and to honor the veterans in this community.

“We want to make sure that we get that message out that they are not forgotten, and we appreciate their service,” says Stewart.

Some seating will be provided at the band shell, but those organizing the concert encourage people to bring a blanket or lawn chair to ensure they have seating.

If the weather is bad it will be moved indoors to the Gryphon Theatre, but the concert will still be free to the public.
