Albany County School District No. 1 has announced the new Laramie junior high principal.

Kevin O’Dea will succeed Debbie Fisher as the junior high principal beginning July 1, pending school board approval at the ACSD No. 1 school board meeting Wednesday night, according to a news release.

O’Dea has served as principal at the Rawlins middle school since 2015. Prior to that, he worked in Spearfish, South Dakota as an Assistant Principal and Athletic Director at the middle school level.

O’Dea earned a Bachelor's of Science in Botany from the University of Wyoming and taught middle school and high school level science for eight years and also earned a Master's in Educational Administration from the University of South Dakota.

ACSD No. 1 Superintendent Dr. Jubal Yennie said O’Dea brings with him an understanding of the middle school model.

“Mr. O’Dea desires to connect with parents and community in meaningful ways to ensure family engagement, and we are looking forward to Mr. O’Dea’s leading the junior high school for the foreseeable future,” Yennie said in a statement.

Yennie said the school district is working to fill other positions before the start of the next academic year.

“We are in the process of interviewing a junior high vice principal,” Yennie said. “We have a committee working on this, so we should have that position filled in the next 10 to 14 days.”
