CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — The largest school district in Wyoming is trying a novel approach to dealing with bullying issues.

Laramie County School District 1 in Cheyenne is using an ombudsman to help school administrators, parents and students handle bullying cases.

Marvin Nash, who founded a school bullying program called Bullying Hurts, has been contracted by the district to do the job.

Nash says it is a pilot program that he believes might be used elsewhere if it proves successful in Cheyenne.

He says his job is to provide better communication between all parties involved in bullying cases with the goal of helping students feel safe in school.

District Superintendent Mark Stock says so far the tactic has proved successful. But he says no decision has been made on whether to continue the program.
